The Bataan Death March was a 60 mile forced march of U.S. and Filipino Prisoners of War (POWs) from Bataan to Camp O'Donnell (a POW camp) in the Philippines. The Bataan Death March was infamous for its brutality. The prisoners were marched in tropical heat with little food or water. Prisoners would be killed just for stopping or if they were too sick to move on. The treatment of prisoners during the Bataan Death March and subsequent imprisonment was found to be a war crime, resulting in the conviction and execution of Japan's General Masaharu Homma by firing squad for crimes against humanity.
