Gen. Dwight Eisenhower
Dwight Eisenhower rose through the ranks to eventually become a five- star general during WW2. Eisenhower commanded forces in Operation Torch (invasion of North Africa) and subsequently the invasions of Sicily and Italy. But he was then moved to the role of Supreme Commander of Allied Forces in Europe, commanding allied forces in Operation Overlord and "D-Day". After WW2, Eisenhower would become Commander of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and eventually 34th President of the United States.
