Generalfeldmarschall Erwin Rommel
Erwin Rommel was one of the most famous generals of World War 2. He was a great tactician, particularly in regard to armored units, and was nicknamed the "Desert Fox" for his exploits commanding the "Afrika Korps" in North Africa. After the Allied victories in North Africa, Rommel was given the task of overseeing the defenses of the Atlantic Wall.
Rommel was implicated in a plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler and given the choice to commit suicide or face a trial and execution. Likely fearing for the safety of his family, he chose suicide by cyanide capsule. |
